Tools for Teaching with Equity and Justice

TCCTA members have shared how systemic injustice and racial inequity impact both teaching and learning in their classrooms. This page brings together resources, case studies, and materials recommended by faculty to help you better understand these issues, facilitate meaningful discussion with students, and take actionable steps toward equity in higher education. This is a living collection—please share resources you’ve found helpful so we can continue learning together.

Examples of institutional initiatives from Texas colleges addressing equity and inclusion.

Dallas County Community College District established a cohort-based learning community where faculty learn together about teaching strategies that respond to the needs of our culturally diverse students, called the Equity in Education League. Faculty teaching in different disciplines explore practical ways to create equitable learning experiences for students and discuss practical application of strategies derived from a set text. Cohorts of 12 faculty were formed to read and discuss the book, Culturally Responsive Teaching & The Brain, by Zaretta Hammond each semester. Through this process, faculty have identified instructional strategies they can implement. This project is another step towards the college’s collective effort to create an equitable campus where students can succeed.

Resources gathered from that gathering are available here.
